Most common location of pain stems from surrounding muscles, ligaments and tendons. Most common causes are Bursitis which is joint inflammation, Tendonitis which is inflammation of the tendons, brachial plexus injury, dislocation, rotator cuff injury. Symptoms can include swelling, pain, inability to raise arm, weakness, loss of sensory functions. Diagnosis is usually made via history taking, examination, MRI . Treatment can vary from pain medications , rest, shoulder brace, to physical therapy, to trigger point injections in shoulder to surgery.
