Heat and cold therapy can help neck and pain patients specially with disc herniation. Heat therapy causes dilation of vessels feeding the muscles subsequently increasing circulation and bringing oxygen and nutrients to muscles and excretion of lactic acid and other wastes which helps muscles with pain and spasm. Cold therapy can reduced inflammation by reducing blood flow to muscles. Both of these therapies can be alternated for maximum relief of muscle pain.
